Independent Accommodation

London has various accommodation options to offer international students. If homestay or student residence does not appeal, you may rent a room in a house or a flat. Prices vary a lot but Milner is located in zone 3 which will be cheaper than accommodation closer to the centre of London, and there are some areas in zone 4 within easy reach of Milner School. There are lots of websites you can use to help find you a room. You should think carefully about what you want and always see it first, perhaps go with a friend, before you agree to anything. You will have to pay a deposit, usually 2-4 weeks’ rent, which is returnable at the end of the tenancy. Always ask for a written contract.

Important things to consider are:

  • How long will it take to get to Milner School?
  • How will I get to Milner School (bus, train)?
  • How many people will I share a bathroom or kitchen with?
  • Can I get internet access?
  • What is included in the cost?
  • Is it furnished?

There are several websites where you can hunt for a room and a basic search on any of these sites is free. For example: Spareroom, Gumtree, ZooplaRoomGo, AirbnbPolar ChoiceRefresh Apartments, Roomspace.

There are several hotels in Wimbledon if you are looking for short-term accommodation, for example: Holiday Inn Express London - Wimbledon South, Premier Inn Wimbledon, Antoinette Hotel Wimbledon, Wimbledon Bed and Breakfast, Justin James Hotel.
